When is analog better than digital?

Our school replaced the “out-of-date” analog clocks with digital clocks this summer. For those of you who are digital natives, analog clocks are those strange circular objects with funny arrow type lines pointing at numbers. These digital clocks do not display seconds. The makers of school digital clocks probably thought the seconds display would be to distracting to the students. Of course, sometimes it’s nice to be able to time activities. Luckily, I have an analog watch with a second hand.

We have a group discussion in most of my classes in which the students sit in a circle. I am looking for another term instead of clockwise or counterclockwise to describe in what order students should give comments. For our digital natives, I now say, “let’s start the discussion to my right” or “let’s start the discussion to my left.”

I visited Best Buy yesterday and discovered they are now selling vinyl records. The logo on the display case reads, “Put the needle to the record.”
